Presentation Description:
How do you get students thinking and talking about mathematics? Number Talks and Math Talks are now implemented in more and more classrooms of all ages to promote mathematical understanding..
In this session Mary Sousounis will model, with attendees, a sample Number Talk before discussing the benefits and key components of Math Talks.. Next Chris, Andrea and Lori will look at how Math Talks in middle school and high school are both similar and different from elementary school Number Talks. The presentation will also address the difference between Number Talks and an orchestrated math discourse in the classroom setting.
We conclude the session by examining some key resources available to teachers and coaches who wish to start Number Talks and Math Talks in their schools and classrooms.
Although this session is an introduction to Math Talks, all are welcome to come and share questions and their own experiences (the benefit of attending a network presentation).
