RSBCMTA October Dinner Meeting (5:30-7:30 pm)
Modeling With Mathematics to Promote Better Problem Solvers (Grades 4-12)
Event Date Tuesday, October 21, 2014, 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Location: Riverside County Office of Education - Conference Center
3958 Twelfth Street
Riverside, CA 92501
Presentation Description
For both new and seasoned teachers, one of the most difficult areas of the California Mathematics Standards is the implementation of the eight mathematics practices into an already full curriculum. Within these eight practices one of the most misunderstood areas is how to include Mathematical Modeling (Standard for Mathematical Practice 4) into our daily lessons. At the RSBCMTA meeting educators Michelle Appleby, Hilda Castillo, and Min Ku from the Ontario-Montclair School District will share just what this process looks like in their classrooms. During this presentation, participants will engage in a lesson on ratios and proportions and will experience mathematical modeling and the development of problem solving skills for themselves. As an added bonus, "Math Talks" will be utilized to facilitate the group conversations.
Dinner Meeting Cost: $10.00 for members; $15.00 for non-members
Membership in the Riverside San Bernardino Counties Mathematics Teachers' Association (RSBCMTA) is $10.00 for one year and $18.00 for two years.
